Indian Gemstone library - Just to let you know a bit about Jewellery Terms


1. BEADS - Beads are small objects, each with a hole through it for stringing. Beads are made of glass, stones, wood, plastics, seeds, and ceramics.






2. CARVING - Carving is an ancient activity where pieces of rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of stone. Soft stone such as chalk, soapstone and pumice can be easily carved.





3. CUT STONE - Cut stones are small stones that are cut into special shapes that are meant for use in commonly-used designs. These usually Common cuts include the brilliant cut,old European cut, emerald cut, radiant cut, rose cut and step cut.





4. SYNTHETICS STONE OR GEMSTONE - A synthetic gemstone is made by man. To be called "Synthetic" a gemstone must have the same appearance, chemical composition and crystal structure as the natural gemstone. It is grown by man instead of in a natural setting. And because they are produced on demand, so the cost is substantially lower than those of natural gemstones of the same quality.
